Merchant credit card accounts for high-risk businesses
Does every business that wants a merchant credit card account automatically get one? It depends on whom you talk to. Even extremely high-risk companies are able to secure a merchant credit card account provided they meet the requirements set out by the merchant account provider.
There are four types of businesses that merchant account providers look at when reviewing merchant credit card applications. The first business is a retail outlet processing credit card orders manually. The second business sells products over the Internet. The third business sells intangible services or software over the Internet. The fourth business deals with international orders.
The merchant credit card application will ask a number of questions, which establish the qualifications of the merchant. There are two places to apply for your merchant credit card account, a bank or a private merchant account provider (MAP). The banks are a good choice for an established business with good credit as they are harder to please. Many banks will not provide a merchant credit card account to an Internet business.
Here is what the merchant credit card provider will need to know: the types of products and services being sold, the competition in the marketplace, the method in which the products and services are being sold and delivered, the prices, the projected sales volumes, the length of time in business and the merchants credit standing. International business sales will face further scrutiny.
