Internet merchant accounts – a banks point of view
Making application for Internet merchant accounts is much like applying for a loan. Do you feel like you are put under a microscope, examined and left to sweat it out while the banks bean counter looks for reasons to reject your application? Is it not really that bad but when it comes to Internet sales, banks are fairly selective of whom gets Internet merchant accounts.
Here is what the bank will need to know when you apply for your Internet merchant accounts. They need to know the types of products and services being sold, the competition in the marketplace, the method in which the products and services are being sold and delivered, the prices, the projected sales volumes, the length of time in business and the merchants credit standing.
Internet merchant accounts are considered more of a high-risk and the number of applications approved is limited. If you are approved, you will most likely be subject to higher service fees. To process credit card transactions, the merchant must download software provided by a third-party processor and can buy the software or lease it monthly. Be sure that when setting up your Internet business you leave enough time to get all the software and equipment in place to take credit card orders. Also be aware, that banks will close Internet merchant accounts if there is too many charge backs.
