How to apply for your free credit report
You may be eligible to receive a free credit report, and avoid credit rating disaster. To keep good management of your credit history, you need to check your credit report every one to two years, and fortunately there are several ways to obtain your free credit report in times of need.
If you have been denied employment based on your credit report, you can apply within 60 days for a free credit report from the same agency your creditor obtained a copy. If you apply for a credit card, whether approved or not, credit bureaus will sent your credit report at request via letter. If you write a letter stating that you are either unemployed and plan to seek employment in the next 60 days, or you are a welfare recipient, or a victim of fraud, you can obtain a free credit report.
All requests for a free credit report require the following information. Include your full name (including Jr, Sr, II), social security number, copy of your utility or some other bill, copy of your driver’s licence, current and previous addresses within the last five years, date of birth, your current employer, signature, home telephone number.
For your free credit report please remember to send this information via mail, as most credit bureaus will not accept applications online.
