Applying for your free credit reports made easy
Free credit reports can shed light on your bad credit history and help you begin the process of cleaning up your credit rating. For a stronger application on a lease, loan or credit card, obtain a copy of your free credit reports before you look for a lender.
Free credit reports are available to those who have been denied employment based on credit reports, or are unemployed and plan to seek employment in the next 60 days, or are welfare recipients, or victims of fraud. Credit bureaus will issue a free credit report upon written request, providing you are eligible.
If you apply for a credit card, whether approved or not, you can receive free credit reports. You must write to the same agency where your creditor obtained a copy, and request your report.
All requests for free credit reports require the following information. Include your full name (including Jr, Sr, II), social security number, copy of your utility or some other bill, copy of your driver’s licence, current and previous addresses within the last five years, date of birth, your current employer, signature and hometelephone number.
