A credit card hack refers to computer hackers who are able to penetrate web sites and cause all kinds of problems and confusion. These people are like joy riders, destroying web sites for the pure pleasure, stealing credit card numbers and hijacking long distance lines.
You certainly don’t want a credit card hack to happen to your credit card number, which is why security has been tightened, and you will find very secure Internet sites to shop on. On a positive note, hackers can usually be traced. It takes lots of time and money, but the crimes they commit are just as important to law enforcement.
When using your credit card online to shop, only give out your number on a secured site. Many sites have made provisions that allow the credit card number to be given at a later date so it is not in the initial agreement.
Likewise, credit card hacking does not just occur on the net. Safeguard all your credit card numbers. Carry only the credit cards you need and when using your credit card, keep the carbon copy and destroy it. If you suspect credit card fraud, contact your credit card company immediately and they have policies in place to protect your credit. If a thief uses your card before you report it missing, the most you will owe for unauthorized charges is $50.00.
Credit card hacking is serious business. Be sure to protect yourself. Never give out your credit card number over the phone and check your statements monthly.
