We all get credit card offers in the mail. Boy, they really try to make you feel like a "somebody". I get Gold Mastercard offers every 2 months, always trying to lure me with low APR's and huge lines of credit.
But how can you really tell if the offers are worth taking. Are the credit card companies solid, reputable and credible.
If you're thinking of signing up with a credit card company, but aren't really sure about them, call the Better Business Bureau in your area.
There was one offer from a credit company that offered a Gold Card with a $15,000 limit and a 0% annual percentage rate (APR) the first year. All you had to do was send in $37 and a signed acceptance certificate.
The Better Business Bureaus was contacted and the BBB said that this credit company had an unsatisfactory business performance record. The company had a pattern of complaints alleging misrepresentation of credit card and loan offers. Complainants alleged they were led to believe by sending required advance fees to the company, they would receive a major credit card or loan. Instead, complainants received a solicitation asking for more money for what the company described as a Gold Merchant Card. This is not a Visa or MasterCard, and it can only be used to order products from th company's catalogue.
Remember, even if a company is registered, it is unlawful to collect payments in advance of performing services.
So to ensure you don't get burned by false credit card offers, check with the Better Business Bureau first.
