The hidden charges in your free credit card
You have probably seen lots of ads offering a totally free credit card. What does free really mean? Is it just free to apply or are there interest free rates available? There are many questions you must ask yourself before accepting a free credit card and the fine print will disclose the hidden charges.
If you log on to a web site and search “free credit card”, you will be amazed at how many online credit card sites there are. Different companies have different offers and each application is reviewed separately. If you have bad credit there are special secured cards but most cards are unsecured.
Here are some of the other fees you may not see disclosed up front when applying for your free credit card. The annual percentage rate is the cost of credit expressed as a yearly rate. Some plans have a variable rate APR that rise or lower rates when interest rates and other economic factors change. Other fees such as annual fees may apply. Some company’s charge them and some don’t. They range from $25 to $100 per year or more. Some free credit cards charge a fee if you make a cash advance, make a payment late or go over your credit limit. Other cards charge a monthly fee whether you use or card or not. Most cards have a grace period from 21 to 30 days before payment is due.
Free credit cards today are convenient and versatile and offer security and peace of mind. In case of emergencies they are a lifesaver.
