AOL Visa: Get FREE internet access when you apply
Here's something that's really worthwhile. If AOL Visa approves your application, right off the bat you'll get a free month on AOL, even if you never use the card. So it's worth it to apply just for that.
As you know some credit cards have an airline rewards program, but with the high dollar volume you now have to obtain in order to get free travel, along with the annual fee, it's just not a good deal anymore.
But hey. FREE internet access. That's something we can all use.
If you transfer a balance, you'll get more points good towards free AOL. The points are worth 1% of the balance transfer amount -- so for every $2200 you transfer, you'll get another free month. Purchases usually also get the 1%, with a few things getting more -- charging your membership fee to the card gets 2%, and buying some things (but not everything -- check the fine print) online through AOL will get you 5%.
Here's the story of how one guy got double reward points from AOL Visa and an extra month to pay his credit card charges.
He has a Chase Visa and an AOL Visa. He makes all his charges on the Chase Visa. Once a month, he transfers the balance of his Chase Visa balance to his AOL VISA (He does this on phone using AOL VISA’s 1-800 #). This is the equivalent of paying the Chase Visa card with his AOL VISA. In doing this, he gets reward points from Chase for his original purchases, and reward points from AOL visa for the balance transfer. He incurs no finance charges on the balance transfer. The amount of the balance transfer shows up on his next AOL statement as a single charge. In order to avoid any interest charges, he just needs to pay the AOL bill. It’s the same as paying the Chase bill - same amount that is – except that he pays it to AOL, around one month later than he would have had to pay Chase. The trick is you need to be on top of when the Chase bill is due, and transfer the balance to AOL VISA before the due date.
And he hasn't had to pay AOL in over two years. Now that's free surfing.
