Businesses who sell products on the Internet cannot survive if they don’t accept credit cards online. With thousands of people getting online for the first time every day, last years sales of over $900 Billion dollars is a number that will skyrocket in years to come. As a businessman, would you want your fair share of those sales? To accept credit cards online, there are several options you can choose from.
Most banks and financial institutions have a program available called Merchant accounts allowing the business to accept credit cards online. They have many requirements you must meet and some banks do not provide merchant accounts to Internet businesses. It is desirable to have a clear credit rating and have been with the bank for at least two years. They will also check out what products and services are offered and projected sales.
The other option you have to accept credit cards online is to hire a merchant service provider. Their fees are 5 to 10% higher than going through your bank, but there are many advantages. Again there is two ways to handle credit card transactions. You can hire a merchant service provider who will do all the steps and simply send you your payment less the commission fee. You can also handle your own merchant account and have them just process the credit card orders. The fees vary widely so you must know all your options and choose the best program for you.
