What makes shopping with credit cards online so appealing? Women love to shop the malls and could spend the day browsing but most men get in and get out as fast as possible! When you shop online from home, it doesn’t matter what you look like and you can most definitely save a lot of time. Since credit card processors have ensured secure sites to shop on, buying with credit cards online has never been easier.
Last year alone, items purchased with credit cards online topped $900 billion in sales. What is important for the Internet merchant to remember is that his overhead is not in the form of a physical storefront, but in the fees he pays to merchant account providers. Typically 7 to 15% or more of each sale from the credit cards online goes to the merchant account provider. There may also be monthly fees, charge back reserves and hidden service charges to take into account. All of these costs must be built into the price of the product and the product must still be priced the same or less than buying elsewhere.
Most shoppers today do not pay with cash. They often pull out their credit cards online and the purchase is made. Businesses have recognized this and are able to take advantage of this explosive growth by having a merchant account set up. Studies have shown that accepting all forms of payment can increase sales by 30 to 50% or even 1500% on Internet purchases. If the vendor did not accept credit cards online as a payment option, he may lose the sale and the customers future business.
