Douglas Lucas' online bank has paid him enough money this year to pay down bills; make a down payment on a new car; or perhaps even take a vacation.
The Louisville, Kentucky resident, who banks with CompuBank®, has pocketed more than $1,500 this year by doing what many once perceived as the unthinkable-referring one's online bank to friends, family members and acquaintances.
And he's not alone. A survey by the Internet-only online bank shows a whopping 71 percent of its customers would likely recommend it to a friend or acquaintance.
"Consumers are comfortable recommending a restaurant, a movie, a travel destination, even a doctor," notes CompuBank's Jonathan Lack. "But ask someone to recommend their bank-and up until now, that's been another story. The fact that three-quarters of our customers would recommend us to their friends is quite an endorsement. I can't think of another bank that can make that claim."
Lucas and the millions of others who bank online are being drawn to customer referral programs which pay cash bonus for referring new customers.
