New Direct TV receiver tips!
A Direct TV receiver is an integrated receiver/decoder (IRD), which unscrambles the broadcast signal from the satellite dish and sends it to your TV. Each TV needs its own dedicated receiver. The number of A/V (audio/visual) output jacks on the direct tv receiver needs to correspond to the number of other devices you want to use with your TV, such as the VCR or an additional audio receiver.
A usual Direct TV receiver may cost between $100 and $200; during some promotional campaigns, a second receiver may come free with the purchase of a Direct tv system.
If you do not want to buy a second receiver, get a “second-room-kit” for under $100, which includes enough cable to connect with the direct TV receiver of the first TV, and it will have a radio frequency (FR) remote to enable you to change channels through walls. But you may not like the limitation it places on you: both rooms have the same channel to view. For independent channel and room viewing, buy a second or a slave receiver.
